Enrollment: Education Benefits

VA Educational Programs

Many benefits are available to advance the education and skills of Veterans and Servicemembers. Spouses and family members may also be eligible for education and training assistance in fact, 25 percent of those benefitting from VAs education programs are non-Veterans. Some might find they're eligible for more than one benefit or that one program is more suited to certain education and training goals than another.

Yellow Ribbon Program

The Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program (Yellow Ribbon Program) is a provision of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008. This program allows institutions of higher learning (degree granting institutions) in the United States to voluntarily enter into an agreement with VA to fund tuition expenses that exceed either the annual maximum cap for private institutions or the resident tuition and fees for a public institution. The institution can contribute up to 50% of those expenses and VA will match the same amount as the institution. Yellow Ribbon does not apply to OJT/Apprenticeships and NCD (non-college degree) schools. Humboldt State University does NOT participate in the Yellow Ribbon Program.
